Buying a Suit for the Groom Online

Most men only buy a tuxedo once or twice in their lifetime, so the process can be a bit intimidating. Visiting a tailor and asking for alterations can seem antiquated, as high-tech as today's world is. However, technology can help when buying a suit for the groom online.

Online suit sellers can sell for less than retail price, because they don't have to pay to maintain a store or pay sales staff. If you're willing to do the legwork, you can end up buying a suit for about what it would cost to rent. Here's how to buy a suit for the groom online:

  1. Start with the right measurements. Finding a suit that fits well doesn't have to be hard; any cleaners' that offers alterations can take the groom's measurements. Many will do this at no charge, while other shops will charge a nominal fee. Good measurements can ensure that the groom gets a suit that flatters his frame.
  2. Look at suits from top designers. Go to a boutique or mall, where you can look at styles and fabrics up close. The bride will love to go with the groom to do this- make a date out of it! If you live near a mall or outlet store, it will be easier to find a salesperson who will offer their unbiased opinion.
  3. If you're buying a suit for the groom online, and it comes from the factory, make sure it's ordered ten or twelve weeks before the big day. The pants will arrive unfinished, which means that they'll need to be taken to a tailor for alterations. The jacket and/or vest will probably also need to be altered.
  4. Your wedding is important- trying to pinch pennies by buying used on eBay isn't a good idea. Check the online suit seller's location; if you're in a state where the seller has a bricks-and-mortar store, you will have to pay sales tax. If you're trying to save when buying a suit for the groom online, buy from an out-of-state vendor.
  5. Be sure that you're available when the suit is delivered. Most reliable vendors will ship via FedEx or UPS, and they'll need your signature on the delivery. If you have the suit delivered at home, and you're at work, that could create a problem. If you tell the driver to leave the package with a neighbor, or outside, and it's stolen or damaged, you may not be able to file a claim. To be safe, have the suit delivered to your workplace, or to a UPS Store.
  6. When you get it, try it on. There's no rule against the bride seeing her groom in his suit before the big day! Show her how you look in it; maybe she'll see something that the tailor did not. If your suit still has fit issues, you will still have time to make final alterations.

Simple as that! Buying a suit for the groom online doesn't have to be hard. Just follow the instructions above, and you'll be sure to look handsome on your wedding day.
